Learn about dry eyePhotobiomodulation (PBM) is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that uses certain types of light. It's painless, with no needles or surgery.
The light is absorbed by cells in the eye, which may help them work better.
For dry AMD, it's used to support the cells at the back of the eye that matter for your sight.
For dry eye disease, it's used to calm inflammation and help the eye feel more comfortable.
Every patient is assessed first, so PBM is only recommended when we think it's right for you.
Red and near-infrared light is delivered in controlled doses. Unlike a surgical laser, it does not cut, burn or remove tissue.
The light reaches the mitochondria, the structures that produce most of the energy a cell needs to function.
Research suggests certain wavelengths interact with cytochrome c oxidase, part of the mitochondrial energy pathway.
The aim is not to boost cells in a vague sense. It is to help stressed cells work more normally and resist further damage.

Our story

Optometrist & Orthoptist
The journey differs depending on what is being treated. Choose a treatment to see what is involved.
From your initial clinical assessment to your final report, every stage is carefully planned and clearly explained. Assessments take place in a clinical setting, while treatment sessions are delivered in the comfort of your home.
Step 1 · In clinic
Your vision and eye health are carefully assessed, and we discuss how common conditions are affecting you. We create a plan including detailed macular scans if needed.
Step 2 · At home
Your first light therapy session is delivered at home. We guide you through the process, answer questions and confirm your remaining appointments.
Step 3 · At home
Your course consists of 9 home sessions over 3 weeks, each lasting around 12 minutes. Keeping to the planned schedule is important, so appointments should only be rearranged when unavoidable.
Step 4 · In clinic
One week after the last treatment session, you return for the clinical reassessment. We compare your macular scans to discuss any positive changes.
Step 5 · By email
Finally, we prepare a detailed clinical report summarising your assessments and treatment outcomes, delivered securely by email.
* Based on RevolutionEyes' own records of patients who completed a full treatment course. Outcome measures include best-corrected visual acuity, contrast sensitivity and patient-reported symptoms. Individual results vary and improvement cannot be guaranteed.

I was diagnosed with AMD in June. Adail carefully explained how this would affect my sight in the future and the treatment available at this time. I have completed my first course of treatment and am delighted with the results. The treatment couldn't be easier.
Adail has been very professional right from the start of this journey. He explained very clearly the benefits of the treatment while being very realistic about possible outcomes. The treatment was very straightforward and made all the more enjoyable by Adail's stories and chat. Having finished my round of treatment I have clearer vision to a varying extent in both eyes.
I stopped using contact lenses because my eyes would dry out within an hour or two of wearing them, so for many years contact lenses were not an option for me. A friend recommended RevolutionEyes dry eye therapy because it had worked really well for them. I can now wear contact lenses again and I'm over the moon with the difference it has made.
